I’m Vinny Sorrentino, founder and owner of Detail By Vinny (no I do not have a beard anymore). I’ve had the privilege to work on some of the most amazing cars and planes in the world and I’m incredibly thankful for that as my portfolio is growing every day. While I try to make a personal connection with every one of my customers, I realize that I have only met a small portion of the world’s car community. I’d like to share my journey for those of you whom I have not met yet and would like to know a little about me.
Ever since the day I was born I had a passion for anything
on wheels. I was that geeky teen who read every new edition of Car and Driver
the second it was dropped on my porch. I retained every last bit of information
on everything I read, whether it was the torque on a new Duramax motor, the
cubic feet of storage on the new Honda Odyssey, or the 5-60mph launch of the
Porsche 911, I retained it all. Simply put, I loved cars (and clearly still
When I graduated high school I went to a 4-year university and studied business/international finance. College was expensive and to help offset my cost of tuition I started washing cars on the side. With the more cars I saw, the more curious I became. I started seeing issues with paint I had never read about or seen before and searched for a process to bring clarity back into the finish. Through 3 years of research, trial and error, I was finally able to source a correction process that delivered a 98% success correction rate. This approach is unique to me and can take up to 2 weeks to complete. I have tweaked this process about a thousand times and continue to this date. Each vehicle manufacturer has a different clear, different hardness, different depth, and I’m well versed in it all. It’s all I do. Not all paints were created equal, Ferrari you are the worst (if you are reading this).
This brings me to my current point in my career. After learning to finish paint to a level I saw so flawless, there was nothing more I could do with the cosmetic appearance. This stagnant state started to wear on me and 3 years ago I took an offer to buy out my company to take part in a company rebuilding classic air-cooled Porsches. At the time this seemed like the right idea because it was new, it was challenging, it was different. I did this for less than 6 months before I determined I made a huge mistake. No salary could make me be passionate about something. I left that partnership and started correcting, coating, and wrapping paint once again. The only difference is now I have a shop, a lift, more tools than I care to count for ($$$$), and the drive to know this is where I am supposed to be. This is detailing done right.
In short, my company and our work is truly my passion. This is what I love to do. This is in my blood. I don’t care whether I am correcting and wrapping a Chevy Camaro or a Lamborghini Aventador, my passion runs just as deep. I love what I do and because of that I feel like I never have to work a day in my life. Thank you to all my customers and clients. I would love to meet anyone who shares the same passion as me. Through the course of my business' growth, many people have offered to build advanced websites for me with automated messaging and online scheduling systems. I wanted to put in a few words here as to why I have not and do not plan to do that. My business is an extremely advanced service related business where I always put the customer first. I find that the more automated my systems become, the more distant I become from the customer. I have personally worked on vehicles that were worth in excess of $6,500,000. These vehicles are their owner's pride and joy and I find that the truest way for me to earn my customers trust and respect is to speak with them personally. This can be through an email, a phone call, text, or a personal visit. This not only helps you, the customer, learn who I am and what has helped me to get to this point in my career, but it also helps me learn what your exact needs and desires are. This is also why I do not use Photoshop or edit any of my images. What you see online is exactly what you get; I find perfection to be a beautiful thing and would not want to mess with it in any way, shape, or form. Although I agree that technology can help me, I refuse to let it distance me from my customer. Just like you have a love for your car, I have a love for this service and plan to keep it as personal as possible.
